Brussels, 31/01/2011 (Agence Europe) - National registers used for carrying out online business transactions on the European energy market were suspended on 19 January due to cyber attacks. They are not yet ready to be put back into service. On Friday evening on 28 January, the European Commission indicated that it would examine the first independent reports received from certain member states about whether some national registers are now able to meet minimum security demands (EUROPE 10302). In a press release, the Commission indicated that “other reports are expected in the next few days. Nonetheless, it is expected that certain national registers will not have finalised their reports for another few weeks”. Given the situation, the Commission considers that the first national registers might be able to resume normal operations in the second half of this week. The temporary suspension of the registers does not involve the allocation and purchase of emissions quotas. (A.N./transl.fl)
