31/01/2011 (Agence Europe) - Call for suspension of import taxes on cereals to be considered. The European Commission is of the view that, for the time being, suspension of import duties on cereals from non-EU countries would not affect prices on the Community market. It says, however, that it intends to give careful consideration to this measure, recently called for by producers of animal feeds. According to the Commission, cereal prices on European markets are currently in line with global prices. There are no supply problems at the moment. The Commission notes, too, that customs duties on maize are already zero and that quotas for reduced-duty imports have hitherto been little used. (L.C./transl.rt)
