Brussels, 31/01/2011 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 31 January, the Hungarian minister for foreign affairs, Janos Martonyi, presented the General Affairs Council with a roadmap that (according to the wishes of the Hungarian Presidency of the EU) should lead to the adoption of a “Community framework” for the national strategies of member states for the integration of the Roma by the European Council in June. The process will be launched with the communication on the subject, which the European Commission is expected to adopt on 5 April. Three days later on 8 April, a high-level meeting will take place in Budapest (High Level Roma Platform) to discuss this text and prepare follow-up work. The Justice and Home Affairs Council on 11 - 12 April will hold an exchange of views on the issue, followed by a debate at the EPSCO Council (Employment, Social Affairs) on 19 May, which will also adopt conclusions. Ministers for education, youth and culture will discuss the question at their Council on 19 - 20 May. The result of all these different exchanges of views will be summarised in a report by the Hungarian Presidency. This will then be used to back up a far-reaching discussion by foreign affairs ministers during the General Affairs Council on 23 May, which will also approve the conclusions. These conclusions will be submitted to the June European Council, which will then be expected to formally approve a “European framework” for strengthening and improving coordination of the different national strategies to help integration of the Roma in Europe.
