Brussels, 06/12/2010 (Agence Europe) - On Friday 3 December, the Telecoms Council adopted a single set of conclusions on two European Commission initiatives: the “Digital Strategy for Europe” and the “Innovation Union”, brought forward in May and October respectively. The conclusions state that an integrated European innovation strategy needs the setting up of a fully functioning digital single market to the benefit of European businesses, in particular SMEs and innovative start-ups, and European consumers. The two Commission initiatives are of huge importance to achieving the EU 2020 strategy objectives as they propose a strategic approach in order to support the transition of the EU economy towards an energy and resource efficient and competitive knowledge economy that ensures a high level of smart, sustainable and inclusive growth and jobs, which is able to face increasing global competition, the Council says.
