Brussels, 04/11/2010 (Agence Europe) - The roll out of a very high speed optical fibre network in the Netherlands received a significant boost on Wednesday 3 November with the agreement of a €285 million bank loan by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and five commercial banks (ABN AMRO, BNP Paribas, Friesland Bank, ING and RBS) for open access network provider Reggefiber. The loan facilitates the further rollout of next generation fibre optic broadband services. Investment in the rollout of the network, with up- and down-load speeds of more than 100 megabits-per-second, is in line with the EU's goal of increasing high-speed internet access to half of all households by 2020.
