Brussels, 02/11/2010 (Agence Europe) - The second round of talks on setting up a management plan for mackerel fishing in the waters of the North-East Atlantic resulted in failure on Thursday 28 October (EUROPE 10237). No date has been set for a third series of talks with a view to reaching an agreement on this tricky question between the EU, the Faroe Islands and Iceland, but some feel such talks could be held during the next meeting of the North-East Atlantic Fisheries Commission (NEAFC) from 8-12 November in London.
Coastal states continue to hold different views but Scottish fishermen are pleased to note that the EU is being firm and not giving way to requests made by the Faroe Island (85,000 tonnes of mackerel quotas) and Iceland (130,000 tonnes). (L.C./transl.jl)
