02/11/2010 (Agence Europe) - Following a terrorist attack claimed by the Iraqi branch of Al Qaeda against the Catholic cathedral in Baghdad on Sunday (31 October), which killed over 50 people, including women and children, the EU has expressed its outrage at this incident. Catherine Ashton firmly condemned this “inadmissible” act and reiterated the EU's full support to the Iraqi people. She called on the Iraqi authorities to fight together against the threat of violence and terrorism. The EU High Representative also underlined the fact that the right of all religious groups to worship and freely pray together must be protected. The president of the European Parliament, Jerzy Buzek, also condemned the attack and expressed his support for the Iraqi government. (H.B./transl.jl)
