Brussels, 08/10/2010 (Agence Europe) - The annual summits of the World Bank and the International Financial Fund in Washington on 8 and 9 October 2010, to be attended by EU Development Commissioner Andris Piebalgs, will discuss poor countries' ability to deal with the economic crisis and the future of Sudan.
In a speech to the Development Committee, the World Bank's and IMF's ministerial forum on development issues, the commissioner will announce an initiative for a future EU development policy to ensure effectiveness, efficiency and lasting impact for sustainable growth to the benefit of all in developing countries in this time of fiscal austerity. At a round table on Sudan organised by the World Bank on Saturday to prepare for peaceful transition after the referendum on self-determination in the South of Sudan in January 2011, Andris Piebalgs will stress the need for joint action by the international community to support development and stability in the country.
