14/09/2010 (Agence Europe) - On 13 September, the Council gave its permission for the European Commission to adopt regulations implementing Directive 2009/125/EC, establishing a framework for eco-design requirements applicable to energy products, such as dishwashers and washing machines. The draft decision is subject to the regulation procedure with scrutiny, under which the Council can oppose an act that exceeds the implementing powers of the Commission, is not compatible with the aim or content of the basic instrument or does not respect the EU's principles of subsidiarity or proportionality. The Council has given its approval and the Commission can subsequently adopt the regulations, unless the European Parliament objects. (E.H./transl.fl)
