Brussels, 22/02/2010 (Agence Europe) - On 23 and 24 February, the European Commission is holding a conference on ICT for energy efficiency. The objective of this conference is to promote the transition to a high-energy yield and low-carbon emission economy, by using new technologies. It will provide the opportunity for the launch of an "ICT forum for energy efficiency", and a Green Digital Charter will be signed by the major European cities which have pledged to use new technologies to promote energy efficiency. The conference will also discuss "smart meters", which are starting to come on stream, allowing consumers to manage their behaviour as regards the consumption and production of energy. The plenary session of the conference will be opened by Neelie Kroes, the European commissioner responsible for the digital agenda. (I.L./transl.fl)
