Brussels, 22/02/2010 (Agence Europe) - Aled Williams of the United Kingdom was elected President of the European Judicial Cooperation Agency, Eurojust, during a plenary session meeting in The Hague on 16 February. His appointment has still to be confirmed by European justice ministers, who are to meet in Brussels on 26 February. Until then, Michèle Coninsx, Vice-President and National Member for Belgium, will remain Acting President. During his legal career, Williams has worked as a prosecutor with responsibility for serious cases of homicide, fraud and drug trafficking. In 2002, he was appointed the United Kingdom liaison magistrate to Spain, working for four years in the Justice Ministry in Madrid. He joined Eurojust in July 2006 as Deputy National Member for the United Kingdom, before being appointed as National member for the UK in 2008. The new Eurojust president will work closely with another Briton, Rob Wainwright, who is currently Director of Europol. (B.C./transl.rt)
