Brussels, 22/02/2010 (Agence Europe) - At the informal dinner for European trade ministers in Brussels on Sunday 21 February, Italian Deputy Trade Minister Adolfo Urso told European Trade Commissioner Karel De Gucht that Italy wanted Community import duties on such goods as steel, iron, aluminium and carbon electrodes, wood, silk and leather suspended. “Since Italy is a country which to a large extent processes goods, a suspension of duties would immediately reduce costs for businesses and, further along the supply chain, too, prices for consumers,” Urso is quoted by Italian daily Il Sole 24 Ore as saying. He told De Gucht that the United Stares had already adopted measures to ensure the supply of strategic commodities. (E.H./transl.rt)
