22/03/2007 (Agence Europe) - Eurojust, the European office for judicial coordination in The Hague, announced on 19 March that it had entrusted the German justice system with the task of taking action against an alleged serial killer. Originally from the former DRG, Volker E. had been arrested by the German police in November under the European Arrest Warrant issued by the Spanish justice system, whereby he was being sought for the murder of a Bulgarian prostitute. The man has confessed to killing 5 prostitutes and is suspected of having committed at least 19 murders between 1974 and 2006 in Germany, France and Spain. Given that contradictions of jurisdiction could possibly arise, Eurojust decided that Germany was the best place for legal action regarding the alleged crime. (bc)
