15/05/2006 (Agence Europe) - A conference was held at the European University Institute of Florence on 21 and 22 April, bringing together the authors of a draft work, provisionally entitled The European Constitution: retrospective and prospect, produced under the supervision of former Vice-President of the European Convention Giuliano Amato. According to a press release from the Institute, Mr Amato believes the wisest solution would be to try to adopt a Constitutional treaty close to the one that already exists, accepting its “hermaphroditic” character since this reflects the hybrid nature of the EU, while at the same time, investigating the possibilities of another way, involving a parallel treaty concluded among a group which want greater integration.
