GENERAL NEWS / (eu) eu/euro/new member states

15/05/2006 (Agence Europe) -According to French daily newspaper Le Figaro of 15 May, when he presents his reports on Slovenia and Lithuania and the adoption of the euro this Tuesday, the European Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs, Joaquin Almunia, will announce that Slovenia is in respect of the criteria which will allow it to become the 13th member of the euro zone on 1 January 2007, which is not the case with Lithuania, due, amongst other things, to its high rate of inflation (it is worth noting that Estonia has decided to wait until 2008 before it joins the euro zone).
