07/04/2006 (Agence Europe) - Further to a draft recommendation from European Ombudsman Nikiforos Diamandouros to the EU Council calling for the Council's language policy to be reviewed in relation to the half-year Presidency internet sites with a view to adding the German language (EUROPE 9165), 47 Italian MEPs wrote to the Ombudsman calling for the Italian language to be taken into account also. In their registered letter sent on 6 April, MEPs stress that Italian is spoken by over 60 million European citizens. Signatories of the letter include the heads of the Italian delegations within the PES, ALDE, Greens, GUE/NGL and EPP Groups; MEPs Zingaretti, Pistelli, Frassoni, Musacchio and Tajani; as well as the two Italian vice-presidents of the Parliament, Luigi Cocilovo (La Margherita) and Mario Mauro (Forza Italia).
