03/11/2004 (Agence Europe) - MEP Caroline Lucas (Greens, Britain) has once more attacked the Blair government on the European Constitution. In the government's guide called "Plain Language Guide to the EU" published on Tuesday to launch the campaign for a yes-vote during the British referendum on the Constitution, she states indignantly that there is a chapter on "improving defence and security" which confirms that adoption of the Constitution should "encourage other European countries to spend more on defence, and spend it better". Caroline Lucas warns the Secretary to the Foreign Office, Jack Straw that this publication "will lead many peace campaigners to realise that the Constitution would lead to more military expenditure - and to join the campaign for a no vote". Ms Lucas continued saying: "Many voters will be shocked by this frank admission - and by the equally astonishing and arrogant suggestion that the British government knows how to spend the proposed increased defence budgets 'better' than anyone else".
