28/02/2003 (Agence Europe) - In a press release, CSU MEP Joachim Würmeling called on the European Parliament to stop calling for "centralised justice for the European patent" (see article on page 11 of yesterday's Europe on the discussions of the Competitiveness Council). The specific nature of European patent law did not justify the establishment of a centralised court, said Würmeling, arguing that the introduction of a kind of "parallel European justice would be detrimental to clarity and legal security". Pointing out that in April 2002 the European Parliament had made similar comments, he attacked what he described as "the draft Greek compromise to create "moving chambers" such as had not been seen in Europe since the Middle Ages". He regretted that this ridiculous dispute has been blocking agreement on this vital issue for the EU for such a long time.
