GENERAL NEWS / (eu) eu/who summit

03/09/2001 (Agence Europe) - "If a country is a member of the EU, it had duties, honours, costs and obligations to carry out and it has to meet them… I use the same words as Kofi Annan and reaffirm the necessity for EU member states and Italy to continue to work to reinforce the EU" is in substance what the President of the European Commission, Romano Prodi, said in Vallombrosa where he was taking part in the ACLI Conference (the Association of Catholic Workers in Italy) on the question of moving the WHO Summit planned for 5/9 November from Rome to another country in order to avoid clashes with antiglobalisation protestors of the type witnesses at the G8 Summit in Genua on 20/22 July. The Italian European Policy Minister, Rocco Buttiglione, suggested continuing to hold the summit in Italy but somewhere other than Rome.
