Brussels, 03/09/2001 (Agence Europe) - A declaration by Belgian Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt has to some extent backed up the rumour that the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Wim Kok, may be the president of the future Convention that is to draft a constitutional treaty with a view to the next Intergovernmental Conference. "He is a man of great experience on the European and international scene", said Mr Verhofstadt, speaking of his European future. Several other names have already been cited: Nicole Fontaine, whose mandate to the EP Presidency expires at the end of the year; - former Belgian Prime Minister Jean-Luc Dehaene; - and former Finnish President Martti Ahtissaari.
