Brussels, 03/09/2001 (Agence Europe) - As we announced earlier (see EUROPE of 28 July, p.5), a colloquium on the theme "No European Democracy without European Parties" (transnational) will be held on 29 and 30 November in Eupen, in the context of the Belgian Presidency of the EU Council. The colloquium is organised by B-Plus, with Ludo Dierickx, as chairman, in collaboration with the European Union of Federalists - Belgium, chaired by former MEP Fernand Herman, and the Minister-President of the German-speaking Community of Belgium, Karl-Heinz Lambertz. Participants will include MEPs Jo Leinen (PES), Hans-Gert Pöttering (President of the EPP-ED Group), Willy De Clercq (Liberal Group) and Pierre Jonckheer (Greens). A question raised during the seminar will be that of knowing how to bring citizens closer to Europe, "if citizens can never express their views on European policy, not even with votes" and if the parties do not carry out a "political-educational" task for mobilisation of citizens, stressed Mr Dierickx (UEF Belgium. Telephone in Brussels: 027358791).
