12/06/2001 (Agence Europe) - The French Senate will examin, on 14 June, a draft constitutional law aimed at reducing the times for the transposition of European legislation into French law. Aymeri de Montesquiou and Hubert Haenel propose that all draft law aiming to transpose provisions of a legislative nature of a Directive (…) must be filed before the Parliament and included in the agenda (…) at least six months before the expiry of the timeframe set by this Directive for its transposition. The two Senators recall, in their explanatory statement, that France finds itself in 12th place for the transposition of Community Directives: 173 texts are awaiting transposition, the transposition date being exceeded for 136 of them. The Commission stigmatised France in its last single market scoreboard (see EUROPE of 28 and 29 June, p.9).
