Brussels, 12/06/2001 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday, the European C ommission approved the planned merger of the European activities of the companies Amcor Ltd (Australia), Danisco A/S (Denmark) and Ahlstrom Corp (Finland). The joint-venture, Amcor Flexible Europe A/F (AFE), will be controlled by Amcor and Danisco, Ahltrom only having a minority stake. AFE will the Europe's foremost supplier in flexible packaging. The Commission concluded that the market would remain sufficiently competitive despite this position of strength: with a market share below 15%, AFE will indeed have to compete with powerful rivals such as Alcan and VAW Europack. In addition, the clientele, composed of companies producing food, can exercise significant buying power. Also, the Commission considered that the post-merger market structure was likely to prevent AFE from exercising undue market power.
