06/04/2001 (Agence Europe) - During his short exchange of views Tuesday evening with MEPs over the introduction of the euro, Pedro Solbes replied to a question put t him by Ms. Thyssen (EPP, Belgian) who wondered about the usefulness of granting "tax incentives" for SMEs to help them in the changeover to the single currency. This issues is the responsibility of Member States, he said, whereas he took note of the suggestion of the parliamentarian of attracting the public's attention to the fact the national coins and banknotes will no longer be exchangeable, and to organise their collection to use them for "good causes, rather than throwing them into the dustbin".
