American and British universities still highest ranked. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (United States) remains the top university in 2015 in the annual QS World University Rankings. It is followed by Harvard (United States), which was fourth in the 2014 rankings, and, in equal third position, by Cambridge University (United Kingdom) and Stanford (United States), which were placed second and seventh respectively in 2014. Five of the top ten places are held by American universities and four by British universities. This year, the ETH Zurich - Swiss Federal Institute of Technology broke through into the top ten, while two Singaporean universities recorded the largest moves up the rankings (National University of Singapore, 12th, and Nanyang Technological University, 13th). The QS World University Rankings, compiled since 2004 by Quacquarelli Symonds of the United Kingdom, assess the quality of teaching, research and international openness of universities and also their reputations among their peers and with the business community. In this 12th edition of the rankings, 3,539 higher educational establishments were considered and 891 assessed. The United States was the country most represented in the rankings, with 157 establishments, followed by the United Kingdom (75) and France (46). (Original version in French by Isabelle Lamberty)
