Spain now one of most dynamic of eurozone economies. The Spanish economy is showing signs of recovery. According to the latest figures, business turnover increased by 4.6% in the year to July. Between January and July, exports rose by 5.5% to €148.6 billion, helped largely by the automobile sector. Consequently, the trade deficit has shrunk by 6% to €13 billion. The country also recorded very good tourism figures, attracting 9.2 million foreign visitors in the month of August alone. The Spanish government is predicting GDP growth of 3.3% for the year as a whole, making Spain currently one of the most dynamic economies of the eurozone. Job insecurity remains, however, a major challenge for the country. A million jobs may have been created in the space of a year but these are mainly fixed-term contracts or part-time.
