OECD report confirms explosion in asylum requests in 2015. On 22 September, the OECD published its 2015 International Migration outlook and a Policy Brief on the Refugee Crisis which provide an array of figures. Unsurprisingly, it states that Europe will record an unprecedented number of asylum seekers, with almost a million applications. Quoting the European border agency Frontex's figures, the OECD says that, until the end of August, more than 500,000 people had illegally crossed Europe's borders, compared with 280,000 at the same time last year. Syrians made up 21% of asylum seekers last year, Kosovars 9.6% and Eritreans 6.4%. In 2014 alone, some 4.3 million people (up 6% on 2013) entered OECD countries and 2015 is expected to see a considerable increase on that figure. (Original version in French by Isabelle Lamberty)
