25/01/2011 (Agence Europe) - Private storage of pork meat. At the final press conference of the Agriculture Council on Monday 24 January, Dacian Cioloº, European Agriculture Commissioner, stated that the proposal to activate the private storage of pork meat would be examined at the management committee on Thursday 27 January (see also EUROPE 10300). “In a few days' time, the measure could be applied on the ground”, Cioloº said. Producers will be able to store fresh meat after slaughter for a certain period of time and most of the storage costs will be covered by the agriculture budget of the EU. We will have to see how we can make sure that after this storage period, “we can target this production towards the market, including the international market, but without having recourse to export refunds”, the commissioner concluded.
