25/01/2011 (Agence Europe) - Société d'Énergie et d'Eau du Gabon/Veolia Eau/EDF. On Tuesday 25 January, the European Commission authorised the French groups Veolia Eau and EDF to take joint control of Société d'Energie et d'Eau du Gabon (SEEG), by their joint acquisition of the company Veolia Water India Afrique SA (VWIA), which is currently exclusively controlled by Veolia Eau. VWIA controls 51% of SEEG, which is a private Gabonese company that carries out public service works for the production, transport and distribution of drinking water and electricity in Gabon. Although SEEG carries out no activities on the territory of the EEA, the transaction was notified to the Commission because the turnovers of Veolia Eau and EDF are above the limits laid down by the regulation on mergers. The operation was examined under the simplified procedure. (F.G./transl.fl)
