Brussels, 25/01/2011 (Agence Europe) - European Neighbourhood Policy Commissioner Štefan Füle travelled to Syria on 25 January for a one-day working visit during which he was due to have meetings with the principal members of the government (including Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Dardari and Foreign Minister Walid Moallem) and other leading economic and international cooperation figures. Syria remains the only Mediterranean country not to have signed an association agreement, though one is under negotiation and is nearing conclusion.
The commissioner was also due to meet beneficiaries of the EU-funded programmes for Palestinian refugees in the UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency) Damascus Training Centre. (F.B./transl.rt)
