Brussels, 25/01/2011 (Agence Europe) - “The high representative notes the final outcome of the elections announced by the Constitutional Court of the Union of the Comoros which, as provided for in its mandate, reached its decision after considering the appeals lodged by the various candidates. She notes that the Constitutional Court has declared void the results from several polling states, including in Anjouan, because of irregularities and failures”, says a statement from Catherine Ashton's spokesman issued on Monday 24 January. The parties signatory to the Agreement of 16 June 2010 are urged to ensure power is handed over to the newly elected president Ikililou Dhoinine, and the governors elected, Mohamed Ali Said, Governor of the Autonomous Island of Mwali, Anissi Chamsidine, Governor of the Autonomous Island of Anjouan, and Mouigni Baraka Said Soilihi, Governor of the Autonomous Island of Ngazidja. The high representative repeats the EU's commitment to support the Union of the Comoros in its efforts to bring sustainable development to the country, within the framework of the partnership established by the Cotonou agreement.
