Brussels, 25/01/2011 (Agence Europe) - The European Union expressed its “outrage” on Monday 24 January at the terrorist attack on a Moscow airport, which claimed at least 35 lives, and called for those responsible to be sought and “punished”.
European Council President Herman Van Rompuy, European Commission President José Manuel Barroso and European Parliament President Jerzy Buzek each issued his own press release but were united in their condemnation of the attack.
“I am outraged by this criminal act and I call for those behind the suicide bomb to be tracked down and punished”, said Van Rompuy. Barroso condemned what he described as a “cowardly terrorist attack”. Buzek said that “terrorism and violence can never be justified”. These were, he said, “inhumane acts”. The attack was carried out by a suicide bomber in the international arrivals hall of Moscow's Domodedovo Airport, Russian police sources said on Monday afternoon. Thirty-five people lost their lives and 46 were injured. (L.C./transl.rt)
