EP wants more rights for defendants

Brussels, 08/10/2009 (Agence Europe) - People charged in cross-border criminal cases must have the right to appeal, to have some say in where they are tried and to use translation services, Parliament said on Thursday 8 October. MEPs amended an EU Council proposal seeking to ensure that people are not tried twice for the same crime in two different member states (see EUROPE 9938).
