15/09/2009 (Agence Europe) - With opinion polls suggesting victory for the “Yes” campaign in the Irish referendum on 2 October on the Lisbon Treaty (62% in favour, 23% against and 15% undecided, according to a poll published in the Sunday Business Post of 13 September), Irish billionaire Declan Ganley, who founded Libertas, announced that he would campaign against the new treaty. Following June's very disappointing elections for Libertas (only one MEP elected), Ganley announced that he was ending his campaign against the Lisbon Treaty and retiring from politics (see EUROPE 9918). At a press conference in Dublin on 13 September, however, he announced a U-turn, stressing, however, that the new anti-Lisbon campaign would have a much lower level of funding than the 2008 campaign.
