04/09/2009 (Agence Europe) - At the opening of the informal meeting of EU foreign ministers in Stockholm on Friday and Saturday (4-5 September), the president-in-office of the Council, Carl Bildt, warned Iranians that the EU was ready to “confront” Iran on the nuclear issue, if necessary. “If they are willing to discuss it with us, then we are too”, the Swedish foreign minister said. “But if they opt for confrontation, then that is what they will get”, he told the press. Teheran has announced proposals for resuming discussions with the international community but the EU has so far received nothing, High Representative Javier Solana confirmed on Friday.
