04/09/2009 (Agence Europe) - Over the past week, in Geneva, over 2,000 climatologists, professionals from various sectors and policy-makers have been meeting at the 3rd World Climate Conference (WCC3) of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO). On Thursday 3 September, they decided to create a global framework for climate services in order to “strengthen production, availability, delivery and application of science-based climate prediction and services”. The European Commission had given its support to the principle of creating such a framework, which comes within the remit of the conference on climate to be held in Copenhagen in December. European Research Commissioner Janez Potoènik said on Thursday that it is “crucial to have information on climate, tools, methods and models, especially for development countries that suffer the most from the adverse effects of climate change”.
