Brussels, 04/09/2009 (Agence Europe) - The Swedish EU Council Presidency has confirmed it plans to convene an informal European Council on Thursday 17 September in Brussels (for a dinner) in order to coordinate the position of the Europeans with a view to the G20 summit in Pittsburgh (24-25 September). Several issues relating to the international economic situation, compensations and bonuses granted to the financial sector as well as strengthened supervision and regulation of the financial markets are on the G20 agenda. The summit will also address the issue of resources and governance of IMF, job creation, energy efficiency and trade/Doha talks and increased support to low income countries, as well as the question of financing measures to address the effects of climate change. After the meeting of EU finance ministers and the “Finance” G20 in London which continues on Saturday 5 September, “all these questions and proposals need to be discussed among EU's heads of state and government before Pittsburgh, so that the EU can have a common and strong position at the G20 summit and speak with one voice.
