Brussels, 04/09/2009 (Agence Europe) - Four months after the second session of high-level dialogue and the Prague summit (EUROPE 9898 and 9904), Catherine Ashton will be in China from 6-11 September to discuss bilateral relations in economic, commercial and investment matters with her Chinese counterparts. The European trade commissioner and vice-president of the EU-China High-Level Economic and Trade Dialogue mechanism, will discuss the issues of Chinese barriers to trade and investment, protection of intellectual property and cooperation over trade and investment in green technologies. The day after the meeting in New Delhi (EUROPE 9965), multilateral negotiations under the Doha Round will also be discussed. Ms Ashton will start her visit to China with a meeting and dinner with the Chinese minister for trade Chen Deming in Beijing on Sunday 6 September. On Monday 7 and Tuesday 8, she will take part in the International Fair for Investment and Trade in Xiamen. Upon her return to Beijing, Ms Ashton will meet representatives of European business in China in the evening of 8 September, before giving a speech on EU/China relations at the University of International Business and Economics, on Wednesday 9 September. She will then meet the Chinese deputy prime minister Wang Qishan, followed by a visit to the international property protection helpdesk. Lastly, on Thursday 10 September, she will meet ministers Yang Jiechi (Foreign Affairs) and Li Yizhong (Industry). (E.H./transl.fl)
