30/06/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 30 June, European Commission President José Manuel Barroso expressed his heartfelt sadness and sincere condolences for the victims of the explosion of two gas tanker wagons the day before in Viareggio, Italy. He said he was distressed at hearing the news and that, for himself as well as on behalf of the European Commission, he wished to express his sincere condolences and sympathy for the families of the victims. He hoped those injured would soon be restored to health. According to the latest report, 12 persons including 2 children were killed and 50 wounded when a goods train came off the track, causing a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tanker to explode and a fire near the Viareggio station in Tuscany.
