Brussels, 17/06/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 17 June, the European Commission proposed "appropriate measures" to Sweden to bring its regime of state aid to newspapers into line with the rules of the EU. Although it does not question Sweden's stated objective, which is to defend the pluralism of the media, the Commission takes the view that a number of changes should be made to this aid regime, in order to avoid any disproportionate distortion to competition and trade.
