Brussels, 11/06/2009 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has launched a public consultation exercise until 27 July on review of European rules relating to deposit guarantee schemes. Urgently revised in autumn 2008 at the height of the financial crisis (see EUROPE 9850), Directive 1994/19/EC covers reimbursement (maximum €50,000 as of July 2009 and €100,000 as of January 2011) for persons making savings deposits in banks that have failed.
