Commission launches HELP 2.0, a new anti-smoking campaign

Brussels, 28/05/2009 (Agence Europe) - To mark the World No Tobacco Day, the European Commission has decided to launch the second phase of its “HELP for a life without tobacco” campaign. On 31 May, three new televised messages will be shown on over 100 TV channels across Europe for one month and then repeated during the month of September. The TV messages, developed with young people, use humour to get three points across: - do not start smoking, how to quit smoking and dangers of second-hand smoke. HELP 2.0 is also a new internet site (http://www.help-eu.com ) which proposes help and serious advice and invites young people to communicate their anti-smoking tips. HELP 2.0 uses the internet as its preferred medium to reach the young. All activities of the campaign - televised messages, internet banners and local demonstrations - lead to the new website. By posting your mobile phone number on the website, you receive a link to the special version for mobile phones “HELP in my pocket”. (O.L./transl.jl)
