Brussels, 28/05/2009 (Agence Europe) - Representatives of the 187 signatory countries to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) are to meet in Bonn on Monday 1 June (until 12 June) for a crucial phase in the international talks that are to lead to the conclusion of a comprehensive climate agreement to take over from the Kyoto Protocol after 2012. This session is indeed crucial because, for the first time, the parties will examine draft texts likely to form the basic architecture of the future agreement. The European Union, represented by the Czech EU Presidency and the European Commission, expects a great deal from this session (EUROPE 9907). The meeting in Bonn is being held the day after the Paris Forum of the Major Economies which welcomes Mexico's idea to create a global fund for climate, to which all countries of the world except the poorest would contribute.
