Brussels, 08/05/2009 (Agence Europe) - The European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) challenges the presentation of the declaration on action for addressing the current economic and financial crisis, saying it is not a joint declaration by social partners. The Czech EU Presidency and the European Commission had, in their letter of invitation and in the programme for the employment summit, presented it as a joint declaration. ETUC said it had simply presented “its personal position” entitled “towards a new social deal in Europe” . It was “no more than that”, it said. ETUC also explains that it did not “uphold the conclusions of the Presidency either”. (EUROPE 9897). (G.B./transl.jl)
