Brussels, 21/04/2009 (Agence Europe) - In addition to Dalia Gybrauskaitë (budget) who has left the European Commission for a while to run for presidential elections in Lithuania (EUROPE 9885), at least three other commissioners will take temporary leave from their duties to play an active part in the European election campaign this June. Louis Michel (development), who heads the French-speaking Liberals (MR) in Belgium, will leave the Commission on 19 May. His portfolio will be taken up by Olli Rehn (enlargement). Viviane Reding from Luxembourg (information society and media) will also leave mid-May on the European electoral campaign to head the Luxembourg Christian Democrat list (CSV). Finally, Danuta Hübner of Poland (regional policy) will head the list of the Civil Platform list under Prime Minister Donald Tusk in Warsaw. She will be on leave as of 17 May. President José Manuel Barroso has not yet decided to whom he will entrust the portfolios of Ms Reding and Mrs Hübner, the Commission spokesman explains. “This decision will be taken in coming days or weeks”, he said.
