Brussels, 21/04/2009 (Agence Europe) - The former Ferrari chief executive and automobile rally co-pilot, Jean Todt, has been appointed President of eSafetyAware, an organisation which aims to promote road safety, mainly through the use of intelligent technology. With special focus on Electronic Stability Control (ESC) technology for vehicles, which allows the trajectory to be corrected by working on the braking system, this automobile sports personality has decided to step up cooperation with the European Union. In a press release, he points out that “40,000 Europeans die on the road every year” and one million are injured. “Reducing road accidents needs to be a key priority for Europe”, he says. A demonstration of new safety technology (ESC, Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Support Systems, Speed Alert and Emergency Braking Systems) will be held during the first eSafety Challenge organised in Vallelunga, Italy, on 8 and 9 September. Jointly organised by Mr Todt, the Automobile Club of Italy and the European, Commission, the event will now be held each year and will bring together the most eminent Formula One drivers.
