Reform of sugar sector achieves objective

Brussels, 06/03/2009 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission announced on Friday 6 March that the 2006-2009 scheme for the restructuring of the European sugar industry had resulted in 5.8 million tonnes of quota being given up, very close to the initial objective of 6 million tonnes. At the end of this 4-year process, the EU quota for sugar has been lowered to 13.3 million tonnes (with Germany having 2.9 million tonnes, France the same, Poland 1.4 million tonnes and the UK 1 million...
