EU welcomes consensus for binding mercury treaty

Brussels, 20/02/2009 (Agence Europe) - The EU and European environmental NGOs have welcomed as a major step forward the global consensus reached in Nairobi on 19 February that will see 140 countries begin negotiations on a binding agreement to control the use of mercury (see EUROPE 9841).
