12/02/2009 (Agence Europe) - On 16 February, the former French counter-terrorism investigating magistrate, Jean-Louis Bruguière, is to reveal to the European Parliament a confidential report on the use by the United States of Swift data (interbank payments) from the EU. The report, which was forwarded to the European Commission on 12 January, is the result of several months of work within the US Treasury Department to verify whether the Terrorist Finance Tracking Program (TFTP - set in place after 11 September 2001) is in line with the requirements of the EU regarding data protection. The report will be made public during an in camera debate of the European Parliament's civil liberties committee. EU Counter-Terrorism Coordinator Gilles de Kerchove is also expected to attend the meeting. (B.C./transl.jl)
