Brussels, 12/02/2009 (Agence Europe) - The EU permanent representatives agreed, on Wednesday 11 February, to add a compromise negotiated with the European Parliament (EP) on the “sanctions” directive, a declaration specifying that this text will not be an obstacle to adoption of a new subcontracting legislation. The declaration, which was added at the request of the rapporteur on the text, Claudio Fava (PES, Italy), is worded as follows: “The Parliament and the Council state that rules on subcontracting agreed upon in Article 9 of this directive shall be without prejudice to other provisions on this issue to be adopted in future legislative instruments”. The EP will adopt its formal stance during the next plenary session in Brussels (18 and 19 February 2009). The Council is then expected to formally adopt the directive (EUROPE 9835 and 9833).
